PINOT NOIR

Mendocino County

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in a vineyard planted in 1968. A two acre block of this old vineyard was sold to developers 15 years ago. All farming ceased on the block at that time, leaving the vineyard without irrigation. With building plans for the site shelved indefinitely, in 2008 this block was cleared of brush, pruned and an organic dry-farming program was established. Located on a stony, west-sloping benchland, the site is at an elevation of 1000 feet and is planted to the Martini heritage clone. Owing to the age of the vineyard, production is a scant one ton of Pinot Noir per acre.
